"Anybody can breathe, therefore anybody can practice yoga." - T.K.V. Desikachar

Any bodily movement is usually associated with health. The more possibilities we find to move ourselves, the more robust we become. Trying Chair Yoga is a good place to start or to resume physical activity in a safe way after injury or surgery. It is also great for people who wish to experience the health benefits of a kinder practice.

Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can help to improve joint mobility, stretch and build muscle strength while promoting wellbeing and reducing stress. The Chair Yoga sequence adapts, in a creative way, classic yoga postures to integrate the support of a chair, which offers stability and safety. It assists people with low mobility, profound stiffness, injuries and hip problems.

This style of yoga may also help us to become more aware of our bodies. Going through different movements, we stimulate new neuropathways to increase proprioception, which helps us to develop somatic awareness and prevent injury. Proprioception is the ability to sense our body position in space and coordinate our movements accurately. With better proprioception, coordination improves.

Chair yoga is also excellent for office workers! if you sit many hours daily in a desk job, this form of yoga is also for you. You can learn ways to move your body every day, while in the office, to reduce lower back pain, neck & shoulder stiffness, and tension.

Join certified yoga instructor Margarida Luz to practice a sequence of seated mindful movements, stretches, twists, breathwork, and meditation using the support of a chair. Margarida has years of experience teaching yoga for seniors and using yoga adaptations with props to support people with injuries and stiffness.

Student Testimonial:

“I can deeply felt and very glad indeed to be able to learn Yoga from Margarida from ground zero through her very gentle and sure way of progress; that her instructions are given in such details and so clearly mapped out that even a senior like myself can experience the benefit; that only having regular private sessions in few months time, I have improved in my flexibility and balance that is much necessary for people of my age. This is surely the right path to a beautiful life when wellness and to maintaining good health is not an option but a priority.” - Ceci Choi
